I’m going with America: in the absence of orders self organize and attack. This is noticed by others, the default for European armies is defense, the American is offense. I say with humility this reflects our problem solving frontier culture from 1607.
Buddy rushes from 2 men to 2 Corps (100,000 men). IMT (Individual Movement technique) and Battle Drill 1A - fire and maneuver and the culture of the American soldier. 1A says one element supports by shooting and the other maneuvers, sets, they are now the support and the other moves. Flank attack. Buddy rushes, moving- set - moving. This scales from 2 soldiers to : 2 corps in Desert Storm. VII corps moved and XVIII Airborne Corps plussed up with 24th Infantry Division (nearly a corps in itself) and 3d ACR on the flank.
The same thing is done on break contact for the reader just in the opposite direction.
IMHO the Break Contact fire and maneuver away from the enemy would solve as best we can with our training and mindset our oft discussed potential weakness in retrograde.
We cannot ignore who we are…
Or we shall be They That Were…
