The timing of the appearance of an article in the Tactical Notebook bears no particular relation to its content. Thus, while I try to avoid multi-month cliffhangers, the publication of series will often be interrupted by such things as the need to check particular facts, delays in the delivery of source material, and the desire to publish articles on a variety of subjects in the course of a given week.
To facilitate the enjoyment of a series in a single sitting, I make extensive use of links that connect posts to each other. Many of these take the form of old-fashioned hot links and the rectangles that resemble “share” and “subscribe” buttons. Of late, however, I have discovered a better way to include links. Thus, in articles that I write (or refurbish) in the future, I will use “small display” links of the type found in this post.
To the similar end of encouraging asynchronous enjoyment of the more than six hundred articles published in Tactical Notebook since December of 2022, I have established a system of “aides to navigation.” Known as aggregators, these can be found in two places. First, all aggregators enjoy permanent residence on The Gateway, which might be described an “aggregator of aggregators.” Second, aggregators sometimes appear in the “for further reading” section found at the end of many articles.
