During the third week of September of 2023, readers of the Tactical Notebook voted on the theme for October of 2023. In doing so, they made convinced me of two things. First, the best month to focus our efforts on articles related to the United States Marine Corps is November. Second, interest in the people, ideas, and equipment associated with the great struggle between Germany and the Soviet Union is stronger than I had imagined.
So, in the week to come, I will wrap up Soixante-Quinze September, give my Larousse a well-earned rest, and begin to publish articles about the Second World War on the Eastern Front. In doing this, I will look for tales of the work done by engineers and, marvelous to say, robots in that contest.
If you are looking for a podcast that will complement the reading of these articles, consider Wesley Livesay’s History of the Second World War. (Episodes 133 through 141 provide a short course in the Soviet Union of the 1930s. Episodes 142 through 148 tell tales of Soviet aggression against the Baltic States and Finland.)
