Platoon (Problem VI)

This is the sixth post in a series. If you have not done so already, you will probably want to start at the beginning, with the post called Platoon (Background.)

Platoon (Background)

Soon thereafter, you run into a small party of engineers.  They are from the divisional engineer company.

The engineers tell you that, towards your left (that is, the west) a company of a neighboring unit, the 160th Infantry Regiment, has just been “annihilated” by the fire of German heavy artillery.

You call that, according to the plan for the advance of the division, the 160th Infantry Regiment is supposed to be on the east side of your regiment.

What is going on here? What are your orders?

The area seen by Lieutenant Laffargue, as depicted on a German map made in 1893.

The series continues with Platoon (Problem VII), which will begin with the historical solution to this problem.
