Of the Decision Game Club
Every Saturday, the Decision Game Club hosts, via Zoom, two decision-making exercises.
Most of the time, these exercises will take the form of a decision-forcing cases, games in which each player takes on the role of a real-world person who, at some point in the past, found himself faced with a particularly challenging problem. (George C. Marshall called these ‘historical map problems’.)
Every once in a while, however, participants take part in a fictional exercise used by leaders of times long past to foster the tactical skills of their subordinates. Thus, for example, they might work through a problem that Gerhard von Scharnhorst posed to his students - one of whom was Carl von Clausewitz - in 1803.
Thus, for example, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, at eight pm (New York time), I will present Dig We Must, a problem posed to Marines studying at Quantico in 1921.
