“Don’t leave your post… ! Coordinate!!”

What now Captain?

Captain, get into the 21st century GWOT mindset or go support the Warfighter.

Meanwhile Galbadon just got promoted and will make Major before you…

Because we need anyone who still goes outside the wire. Never mind wins.

Battle field commission the Private, give him a platoon, he’ll figure out squad, platoon and company tactics on the run. Or send him over to the Recon guys. But as before I would want to have him brief up the battalion, and then my company. He is seeing something out there that no one else is seeing.

No heroes are as destructive as cowards....

This is war, not a Norse Saga or the Iliad

Agree on the cowardice, not sure what the rest meant in context, the Norse saga and Iliad.

If you’re saying heroes are as destructive as cowards, we have a different set of experiences.

I’d like to swap the cowards for the heroes please especially in leadership. Let’s try the Heroes and see if it goes better.

In context we have a problem now and it’s not too much initiative, or Berserkers , or heroes challenging the enemy to duels. If only these were our problems. Our problem is freezing 🥶, to wait on the lawyers clearing the General’s of War Crimes in advance… or bad optics. This just happened, and would happen tomorrow if “War” broke out.

Without a doubt the Norsemen and the ancients would have had extremely bad optics.

Have a great 250th Birthday all.

Heroes, like Norse Sagas, or Hector in the Iliad....doing it THEIR way....sorry this is war, again not a saga. Not a DandD game.

Ok, (s) sorry I didn’t know you were at Saipan.

God Bless ya. Few left.

If you have any spare Beserkers, I’ll take em.

You can have our JAG with their ROE, PID, and all my chain of command until Pete and Trump, with our most compliant CoC they’ll be no bad optics, unless you think Kabul was bad optics. (S)

I knew what you meant.

We don’t have a Beserker problem, we don’t have a discipline problem , we have a faithless leadership problem. As you may gather it’s corrosive in all respects, such as my normal courtesy and restraint, for that matter my subordination if ever needed again will be by name, and under no terms subject to the institution or laws.

The Trust was misplaced, as was the discipline.

We trusted the wrong people, that trust is gone.

So’s the Discipline.

The Piper can do as he will. If I am fit he will follow, if I am not?

Serves me right.

… and now it’s war. …

Now Dear Sir, herein is the war. Here we are.

And now back to the mortar platoon

I think I’m going to have to do some leadership stuff here. And by that I mean I’m not going to just give orders but I need to understand what makes this young man tick. There’s no way I’m sending him to the mortar platoon. Is anyone else hauling in Japanese prisoners? How many lives has he saved? So my opening gambit goes like this, “Ok, Marine. I gave clear orders that I thought were reasonable. You ignored them but achieved greater success than before. What’s your assessment of the situation? Why go alone? What support can I provide?”

I’m basing this on the theory that he’s a “lone wolf” kind of follower. He’s going to do what he’s going to do regardless of what I do. There’s no changing his personality. To the extent that his actions contribute to mission success, I have to take advantage of that convergence. If we were on libo in Australia he’d likely ruin the unit’s good order & discipline. But I doubt anyone else is going to emulate him and wander out after dark on Saipan. So I’m going to be patient and try to maximize his value.
