If the one clear winner of the war in Ukraine is Türkiye, the unmistakable loser is the seven-decade bromance between the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States of America.1 For details of the latest quarrel between these formerly fast friends, see the tale, told by the indispensable Eugyppius, of the suspicions aroused by the American demand for the despatch of German tanks to Ukraine.

The quarrel between the US and Germany is over. Germany will send and allow others to send 100s of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine with their arrival with trained personnel supposedly in two months. They will join the British Challenger tanks.
The US will send 31 Abrams but these aren’t expected for about a year. It sounds like the US simply gave Germany the political cover it so desperately wanted. A lot can happen in a year.
