This page, from the splendid Regimental Rogue website, contains lots of examples of what it calls "Tactical Narratives" or "Tactical Primers." These are substantial articles that use the literary device of successive nocturnal hallucinations to offer a series of increasingly sophisticated solutions to a particular tactical problem. (For that reason, we call them ‘Tactical Dreams’.) Â
As might be expected, the page includes the most famous example of this genre of tactical literature, E.D. Swinton's The Defence of Duffer's DriftIA. (For an interesting way to put The Defence of Duffer's Drift into context, consider watching the film Breaker MorantBC.)
For recent additions to this genre, see The Defense of Hill 781GR, Nightmare on Wazir StreetGS , and The Defense of Jisr Al Dorea. (The authors of the last-named book maintain a website that provides both a downloadable PDF and its associated videos.)
For the an early example of this genre, which may well have provide Swinton with his model, see A Summer Night's Dream.
