The best Substack posts on military subjects that I enjoyed in the past week
Most of the articles included in this list rolled off the presses (so to speak) in the past seven days. A few, however, may be older pieces that I discovered in the week that ends today.
The Great War: Hubris or Analysis looks at the role of two highly unlikely events - the Anglo-French victory at the Marne and the German triumph at Tannenberg - in shaping the conflict - and indeed, the century - that followed.
One Last Desperate Infantry Charge captures the moment when the fate of an ancient republic teetered on the point of a spear.
The Other Causes explores the motivations for the secession of Virginia and, in doing so, reminded me of the way that the conduct of a war can undermine its purposes.
Former BUD/S Commander: Covid Vaccine Caused Soaring Attrition Rate for Navy SEAL Training Classes
Accents Enhance Audiobooks suggests that listening to the words of Carl von Clausewitz read by a narrator with an Australian accent will help you ‘hear them in a new light’.
The Counterrevolutionary Criminal provides a thorough synopsis of a splendid book on rural resistance to the forces of the French Revolution. (If you like the Sharpe novels, or the television series based upon it, you’ll find much of interest in this post.)
The Future of Armor: Going to Ground explores the use of armored fighting vehicles in environments rich in drones and related robots
