It's Time to Pay the Fiddler
But close to a thousand posts will remain free to all readers
On 7 November 2024, The Tactical Notebook will mark the second anniversary of its renaissance. (The use of the word ‘renaissance’ to describe the founding of this Substack honors the ink-and-paper zine of the same name that John Sayen and I published between 1991 and 1995.)
This red-letter day will follow, by two weeks or so, our achievement of an ‘on-hand strength’ of five thousand subscribers. It will also precede, by two months or so, the publication of a grand total of one thousand articles.
In celebration of two years of steady publication, I have decided that, starting on 7 November 2024, most of the new material that I publish will appear behind a paywall. Likewise, in most cases, the ability to comment on posts will be limited to those who have taken out a paid subscription.
All items published prior to that date, as well as aggregators and other guides, will remain free to all readers.
If you are starting out in life, living on a fixed pension, or serving in the armed forces of a country I like, you can request full access by sending us an e-mail message. Likewise, if you publish a newsletter that I would like to read, I would be happy to swap complimentary subscriptions.
Please note that all paid subscribers to The Tactical Notebook enjoy simultaneous membership in the Warfare Mastery Institute, a splendid outfit that offers e-books, articles, and courses that complement nicely the work we do here at the Old Headquarters Building.
