Of the folks, real and otherwise, at the Old Headquarters Building
Last week, John Archer Lejeune and Smedley Darlington Butler, of the Legendary Section here at the Old Headquarters Building, asked members of the Mythological Platoon about their favorite video series. Here is what they learned.
‘I vote for Drachinfel,’ said Hephaestus, ‘I’m not sure what a drachinfel is, but that guy sure knows his ferrous metals.’
‘Iron, and steel, and coal. Oh my!’ joked Aphrodite.
‘And for you, My Love, lots of waves, enough, in fact, to fill 1,500 videos.’
‘You know how I love the sea.’
‘.You can take the girl out of the sea foam …’
‘… but you can’t take the sea foam out of the girl.’
‘I’ve just discovered Type 56 Ordnance Department,’ said Athena.
‘That sounds like something Heph would like,’ opined Ares.
‘There’s plenty for him, and for you as well.’
‘Tactics? Operations? Strategy?’
‘The whole shebang!’
‘Is that Chinese?’
‘Irish’, I think, ‘but you’ll learn plenty of Chinese words from these videos. Better yet, the narrator takes the trouble to pronounce them properly, tones and all.’
‘We’ve been watching Mark Felton Productions,’ said Clio. ‘There’s so much history I have yet to learn.’
‘And so many stories,’ added Calliope, ‘drama, action, tragedy.’
‘Not a lot of comedy, though.’
‘But lots of paradox and a whole bunch of irony.’
‘Indeed. War is politics. And politics makes for strange bedfellows.’
