Issues of German Infantry
The website of the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) makes it possible for readers to download high-resolution page scans of nineteen complete issues of Deutsche Infanterie. However, as some readers will prefer to read this material in a more convenient form, I have assembled these pages into nineteen PDF documents, each of which preserves the contents of a single monthly magazine.
Paid subscribers who would like to download these copies can gain access to the Google Drive folder that holds them by sending an e-mail message to oninfantry@gmail.com.
The Pattern of Production
The mix of articles published in The Tactical Notebook reflects my commitment to comparative inquiry. That is, I believe that one can learn more by looking at the way that several different armies address the same problem than by focusing all of one’s attention on a single military tradition.
At the same time, switching from one language and set of sources to another requires considerable expenditure of energy. Thus, I usually focus on one aspect of one army for a week or so before moving on to another subject.
So, if recent offerings fail to float your boat, consider the advice traditionally given to newcomers to New York ‘if you don’t like the weather, just wait a few days.’ Better yet, use The Gateway, the Archive, or the search feature to find articles on subjects of particular interest to you.
