2. Contact the 346th Harbor Craft Company nearby, as they and a stevedore unit will be unloading on the beach. Contact Cpt Norefleet (Officer Commanding) or 1st Smith or CWO Lee. Be nice. They will alert you to any shipments of 75mm howitzer ammunition being unloaded.
Oddly, my father is one of those 3, and trust me, they'll be more than willing to help you.
Copy that, I would be also telling those guys to get their hands on cigarettes, coffee, rations, small arms ammo and anything they think would help morale.
The answers thus far are great and eye opening! This ancient 0302 would have said pound sand. My buys stay with me to the S4. But just learned a ton. Great stuff! Thanks
Why does it have to be the ammo Sgt? I would try to leave the 5 basic soldiers and put the most reliable guy from that group in charge, even if I had to Brevit one to Staff Sgt. at this point in the movement to contact I would not want to split up crews.
Your ammunition sergeant is the subject matter expert, IF you are a low density ammunition unit, you;ll want the expert to a make sure that your "75mm ammunition" isn't M4 Sherman HE or Smoke.
Copy, but the howiters would already have a basic load and at least one of the trucks would too. I would be educating those guys on what to look for by unpacking a crate in the truck and getting nomenclatures off the crates. If I didn’t think that would work I would rely on the ammo sgt and still send the 5 basic soldiers
Your solution is an option, but the Ammunition Sgt. and Men are still experts, in ammunition handling. The "Basics" could be "OK", but the Basic Pvt.'s are there to fill in for WIA gun crew members. So, the basics could handle ammunition, but might be better serving the guns.
1 Yes....the sergeant and 4 men.
