In February of 1938, the second issue of Deutsche Infanterie provided its readers to a tactical decision game. Set in the hilly, river-cut countryside west of the city of Berlin, this exercise placed players in the role of the commanding officer of a standard German infantry battalion of the day.

You command the 1st Battalion of Infantry Regiment 55 of the the Blue Army. Your unit consists of three rifle companies (each of three rifle platoons), a machine gun company (of three four-gun machine gun platoons), and a platoon of two 75mm infantry guns. (You have attached the latter, which was provided by the regimental infantry gun company, to your machine gun company.)
