Recently, a review of the ‘hearts’ pasted on pieces posted on The Tactical Notebook convinced me that readers would much rather read about Erwin Rommel than French trench mortars, the organization of battalion communications platoons, or, for that matter, any other subject engaged in the pages of this newsletter.
With this discovery in mind, I have resolved to devote the entirety of this newsletter to the life and work of the famous Desert Fox. In keeping with this change of focus —one might even say Schwerpunkt — I have also decided to change the name of The Tactical Notebook to The Rommel Blog.
New articles reflecting this theme will begin to appear on 1 April 2025. These will include:
Magnificent Bastard: Did Patton Really Read Rommel’s Book?
The Full Monty: How Rommel Could Have Won at El Alamein
Desert Foxy Mama: How Rommel Learned Tactics by Playing Kriegspiel against Lucy
Managing Upwards at Lunch: The Delicate Art of Working for a Vegetarian
Thank goodness you’ve come to your senses. Now can you add to the Rommel notebook a complete breakdown chapter by chapter of his must read book for company Infantry Officer’s “Attacks!” Also just how does one manage an eccentric politician who is a vegetarian? Inquiring minds want to know!
Well starting with what Book?
The movie had a book “The Tank in Attack “ which I don’t find IRL.
I refer to the 28th Colonel.
If you don’t know who that is, start pushing.
