I remember doing an impromptu and informal staff ride to the Chorwon, South Korea area in June of 2001, all in support of an upcoming Brigade level Battle Command Training Program event. Nothing is better than traveling the actual terrain to truly appreciate things.
The STAFF ride at Chipyong-ni in Korea for the battle February 1951 was interesting for two reasons 1) that’s actually at the part we were standing very gentle slopes . It’s almost almost a golf course with some mild elevation .
2) at one point (this is 6::1 odds to begin with 5600 vs 30,000 there’s like two guys in a Foxhole .
I think it was Lt McGee and a couple of Pfc‘s are holding off basically a battalion of Chinese for some time. I can’t find his account on YT but it’s fascinating. This was a 3 day battle that stopped the Chinese onslaught.
Wonderful illustration too.
