
Yesterday, while looking for something else, I found a report, on 6 May 1945, that described the purpose, structure, and service of the ‘combat liaison section’ set up by the headquarters of the XVI Corps of the US Army.

The XVI Corps has set up a combat liaison section which works directly for the Chief of Staff and has proved valuable for maintaining a flow of accurate information in fast-moving situations. The section sends liaison parties to each front line regiment to furnish the corps hourly reports of progress and to provide the regiments hourly information on the situation along the entire corps front.
