‘So, Clio, tell me what we are doing here, in the accounts receivable office of the Old Headquarters Building.’
‘Well, it has something to do with the stripes on our shirts.’
‘I was wondering about that as well.’
‘Of late, some readers have had trouble purchasing paid subscriptions. Their credit cards, it seems, did not play well with Stripe, which is the payment processor used by Substack.’
‘Now I get it!’
‘So, we’re here to tell readers that, should they run into a problem of this sort, they should do two things. First, send a note to us - by a direct message on Substack Chat or an e-mail to thecasemethodclub@gmail.com - telling us of the problem. (When doing this, however, include no particulars about your credit card.) This tells us to arrange for a complimentary subscription that allows you to enjoy all of the benefits of a paid subscription while you sort things out with your credit card company.’
‘What’s the second thing?’
‘Sort things out on your end. This may be as simple as sending a note that says that you do, in fact, intend to subscribe to a Substack.’
‘What happens if those measures fail to work?’
‘In that case, we ask that the reader send us a second note, asking for our fact sheet on alternate methods of payment. After all, we accept PayPal, personal checks, money orders, and, as one might gather from the artifacts in our office, traveler’s checks.’
