In July of 2026, the host of the Real and Simulated Wars Blog placed a map problem placed a century-old map problem into a present-day game engine. The problem, which put players in the shoes of the commander of an experimental US Army rifle company from 1930, made its debut in the pages of the very first issue of the Infantry School Mailing List. The same problem, with the (refreshingly click-baitless) title of Short Problem 8, recently enjoyed two other revivals: one in the pages The Tactical Notebook and another in a pair of Zoomdezvous hosted by the Decision Game Club.
You can see the results of this experiment on the YouTube channel of the Real and Simulated Wars Blog.
