All of the content posted in the pages of the Tactical Notebook can be had for free. Nonetheless, one in forty subscribers has taken out a paid subscription. So, before I go any further, allow me to thank these volunteers.
At present, I devote all of the money provided by these subscriptions to things that improve the Tactical Notebook. These include books (almost always second-hand), subscriptions to journals, and subscriptions to other Substacks. (The last-named help me build the alliances that draw new readers to the Tactical Notebook.)
At some point in the near future, I would like to divide all of my working (if not waking) hours between the Tactical Notebook and my other Substack, Extra Muros. In order to do this, I need to convince a thousand people to take out a paid subscription to one of these blogs. To put things another way, I have set myself a goal of convincing thirty-seven thousand people to sign up for a free subscription.
You can help me reach this goal by sharing, quoting, restacking, and linking to material you find on Tactical Notebook and Extra Muros. When you share, moreover, please include a picture with your post. (The easiest way to do this is to “cut and paste” one of the pictures provided with each article.)
One way to restack begins with a click on the “two curved arrows” button (also known as the “cat chasing its tail” icon) at the bottom of the frame of each article.
Another starts with the selection of a block of text from the article in question. (If all goes well, this will result in an opportunity to restack the passage you have chosen.)
At times, this feature does not work. (I have yet to figure out the cause of this problem.) In such cases, you can copy the text you wish to share and make it the note of a“restack with a note.” (You can also paste an image in the space provided for notes.)
Another thing that you can do to help the Tactical Notebook is to make sure that your subscription remains in force. Of late, subscribers have been disappearing from our mailing list in a manner that suggests something other than content-based disappointment is at work. (Some of my fellow Substack authors report the same phenomenon.) So, you may have to resubscribe.
I have also received reports that some people have not been able to take out paid subscriptions. If that has happened to you, let me say, first of all, “thank you.” Let me also say, in the manner of the Scots, “dinna fash yersel.” I am sure that the good people in the IT department at Substack will sort things out in the very near future.
The art work featured in both Extra Muros and Tactical Notebook are worth it and will endeavor to help out as much as my limited IT capabilities allow. Without a doubt word of mouth can be used to some effect. Words to colleagues and fellow misfits “ Attention to Orders, you ain’t living if you’re not joining up on one or both of Bruce Ivan Gudmundsson’s Substack platforms!”
The latest painting “The Alchemist” by Joseph Wright of Derby seems to be so timely in so many ways. Maybe a bit tongue in cheek for convincing the unwashed and unshaved to sign on, but whatever it takes!!!
They can subscribe via email. The app doesn’t allow subscriptions yet.
