Holiday Routine
At the Old Headquarters Building
Here at the Old Headquarters Building, our ‘on hand’ strength has fallen well below the figure called for by our table of organization. Gerhard von Scharnhorst and Clio Avatar are on ‘temporary additional duty’ to the North Pole, where they are helping Santa plan his big trip. The shades of Smedley Darlington Butler and John Archer Lejeune (also known as ‘the Ghosts of Marine Corps Past’) are off to the Pentagon, there to make Christmas eve visits to prominent careerists.
Notwithstanding this temporary reduction in force, the staff of the Tactical Notebook has drawn up a substantial ‘to do’ list for the twelve days of Christmas. This includes
Publishing a third installment of Books Written by My Friends.
Promoting podcasts and video programs worthy of your attention
Posting biographies of the protagonists of future decision games
Showcasing (in a piece called Milstack Annual 2025) the best articles that I read in the past year.
Telling tales of Christmases enjoyed, or, at the very least, experienced, by soldiers on active service.
As you can see, the pieces we intend to publish in the fortnight to come differ somewhat from our usual fare. In particular, we hope to provide you, our valued readers, with items more suited to the season than tales of enfilade and defilade. (The latter will, of course, return in the New Year.)
