During the first three years of its current incarnation, The Tactical Notebook published more than 1,300 articles, decision games, and announcements. Lest these languish in the attic, so to speak, of the Old Headquarters Building, I will, from time to time, publish a ‘blast from the past’ that allows some of these older posts to enjoy the Substack equivalent of a come-back tour.
Today, Blast from the Past showcases posts on the subject of the 1950s, a period in which, for better or for worse, so many aspects of present-day military organizations took root. The sixth decade of the last century also took place in the middle of the period described in many of the posts that, in honor of the birthday of the US Marine Corps, will appear in the pages of The Tactical Notebook this month.
